BEASTIE BOYS ADOPT DEVO LOOK FOR BENEFIT SHOW
    MTV ARTICLE 4/9/96
“The Beastie Boys headlined a sold-out benefit concert in Los Angeles at the Palace last night to raise money for Clean Needles Now, an L.A.-based non-profit organization fighting the spread of HIV through educational programs and clean needle outreach services. This was the first of three benefit shows the Beasties will play during the next three months, the others being the Tibetan Freedom Concert on June 15 and 16 in San Francisco, CA, and The First Annual Boarders For Breast Cancer benefit (where they'll be performing under the name Quasar) which will take place in Lake Tahoe, CA, this Sunday. Also performing last night were Sick Of It All, DFL and the Red Aunts. A no show were Pennywise, who were originally set to headline the show. The group dropped off the bill for "personal reasons." The Beasties' appearance was only announced one day in advance. The Beasties delivered 45 minutes of raging hardcore punk, drawing mostly on their own songs (new and old), but also including material by the Circle Jerks and United Youth. All the members were dressed in Devoesque orange jumpsuits that made them look like a cross between high school janitors and sanitarium workers. There was no encore.”
