    Description

    Flip Book Promo "Give-A-Way"
    Union 76 Gasoline
    1950’s Union Oil Company ~ Old Logo ~ Before Orange Ball
    This 40 page ~ 4 inch by 2 ¼ inch flip book, is an animated sequence of two service station attendants in uniforms (Remember them?). As you flip through it, a hot & tired car huffs and puffs into their station and they go into high speed, checking the oil, washing the windshield, checking the tire pressure and gassing it up. Most of the service stations did all that for free until the mid 1960’s.  The 76 inside an orange ball logo didn't come until 1962. In 1967 they had the orange car antenna balls for a promo.
    The photos at the top of this page show the front, the first page with two Gas Station Attendants in their uniforms with hats, saluting as a car comes driving in and the last page that says,
    “UNION
    Minute Man
    SERVICE”.

    This is a unique promo item. Excellent, unused condition with insignificant age patina. Works great. Never used. We found a few stored in a small, sealed cardboard box in an old gas station slated for demolition. The one I used for the demo I am keeping in my collection of flip books. It has the early Union 76 logo on a square sign.  It is difficult to get a video of it in action because of the angles of pages flipping by. In person it is an entertaining animated cartoon. To see the best I could capture on video, on YouTube, click on this Link below.

    The front cover says;
    “Union Oil Company, presents”
    “HIGH SPEED”
    “A One Second, One-Reel Epic Drama of Life in a Service Station.”
    A disheveled car, tired, steaming, on low puffy tires and wheezing smoke out the tail pipe as it pulls in. The radiator pops, a mushroom cloud of steam is coming from under the hood and more smoke coming out of the tailpipe and getting worse as it pulls up and stops in front of the attendants. The two Attendants go into high speed action, Check the radiator water, the battery water, the oil level, the tire pressure, wash the windshield, Gas it up, etc. When they are done, the car looks factory new, gleaming with pride. The car smiles, takes on a fast and happy look as it pulls out, the old, square “76” sign above and behind it. The two attendants, standing below the old 76 sign, salute the refreshed car as it leaves. We do not have a lot of these. When they are gone, they are gone for good. It’s heavy because of the thick hefty stiff paper. We hermetically seal it in clear plastic and send it First Class U.S. Postal.
