    Description

Vintage historical Champion SHIRE Stallion horse Trophy "First Venture",  registration number 14085 (30443).  1915 Nebraska State Fair. Owned by Joseph Rousselle & Sons, Seward NE.
Research shows Joseph Rousselle immigrated to the US from France.  He was a very important breeder and an early member and one of the founders of both the Belgian and Shire Draft Horse registry around 1909-1911.  He bred many championship studs. The Shire horse is the tallest horse breed 16-18 hands (64-72 inches) and weighs 1800-2400 pounds.
"First Venture", the stallion named on the trophy, was also shown at the 1915 World Exhibition in San Francisco. This elegant trophy is marked on the bottom (see photo #4) and has an aged patina which glows and shows the character of time.  The hand engraved script is in lovely art nouveau style. Please note:  the lip of the top rim has a bend; the bottom rim of the base has a small dent; and, there is a rub mark above the "S" in "stallion". PLEASE LOOK AT ALL PHOTOS CAREFULLY FOR CONDITION.
This trophy is part of draft horse history and great equestrian memorabilia for display.
